Only three Latin letters are not present in Turkish\u00a0: <strong>q, w and x<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Introduced in <strong>1928<\/strong> as part of <strong>Atat\u00fcrk&#8217;s reforms<\/strong>, the current Turkish alphabet replaced the Arabic writing system previously used in the Ottoman Empire. The latinized Turkish alphabet was adopted later by other Turkic languages such as Azerbaijani (1991), Turkmen (1993), and Kazakh (2021), which were formerly written in Arabic or Cyrillic Turkish letters<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of Turkish letters are <strong>pronounced the same may as in English<\/strong>. However, there are few differences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>C\/c (ce)<\/strong>: Pronounced as \/d\u0361\u0292e\u02d0\/ like the &#8220;j&#8221; in &#8220;joy&#8221;.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: cam (glass)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u00c7\/\u00e7 (\u00e7e)<\/strong>: Pronounced as \/t\u0361\u0283e\u02d0\/ like the &#8220;ch&#8221; in &#8220;chair&#8221;.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: \u00e7ay (tea)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u011e\/\u011f (yumu\u015fak ge)<\/strong>: Known as &#8220;soft g&#8221;, it always follows a vowel and has two pronunciations. Note that there are no words that start with this letter in Turkish. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First, if the preceding vowel is one of a, \u0131, o, u, it lengthens the sound of that vowel. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: ya\u011fmur (rain), a\u011fa\u00e7 (tree)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the preceding vowel is one of e, i, \u00f6, \u00fc, it is pronounced as &#8220;y&#8221;. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: e\u011fitim (education), i\u011fne (needle)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>I\/\u0131 (\u0131)<\/strong>: Pronounced as \/\u026f\u02d0\/, a close back unrounded vowel, similar to the &#8220;a&#8221; in &#8220;comma&#8221;, coming from the back of the throat.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: \u0131slak (wet)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u0130\/i (i)<\/strong>: Pronounced as \/i\u02d0\/ like the &#8220;ee&#8221; in &#8220;feet&#8221; or the &#8220;i&#8221; in &#8220;lit&#8221;. The pronunciation is the same as in English but needs to be distinguished with the &#8220;\u0131&#8221; letter in Turkish.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: inek (cow)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>J\/j (je)<\/strong>: Pronounced as \/\u0292e\u02d0\/ like the &#8220;s&#8221; in &#8220;measure&#8221;.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Example: jandarma (military police)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>\u00d6\/\u00f6 (\u00f6)<\/strong>: Pronounced as \/\u0153\u02d0\/, an open-mid front rounded vowel, similar to the &#8220;eu&#8221;
