In Turkish, expressing these concepts involves specific suffixes and conjugation. Let\u2019s dive into each in this article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Express Ability in Turkish &#8211; Can \/ Could \/ Able to<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Turkish, expressing the ability or possibility (can, could, or to be able) is expressed by attaching the suffix <strong>&#8220;-ebil-&#8220;<\/strong> or <strong>&#8220;-abil-&#8220;<\/strong> to the verb stem, followed by the verb&#8217;s conjugation according to the subject. Ya\u011fmur ya\u011fabilir. <em>(The weather is very cloudy. It might rain.)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00c7ok trafik var. Belki ge\u00e7 kalabilirim. <em>(There is a lot of traffic. I might be late.)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can use the &#8220;can&#8221; suffix <strong>with any tense<\/strong>, just don&#8217;t forget the suffix &#8220;-ebil-&#8221; or &#8220;-abil-&#8221; comes before the conjugation of the verb (in second order after the verb stem).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Express Inabilities in Turkish &#8211; Can\u2019t \/ Couldn\u2019t \/ May not \/ Might not \/ May not be able to<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are different ways of expressing inabilities in Turkish, translating to can\u2019t, couldn\u2019t, may not, might not or may not be able to. He\/She is very attached to his\/her freedom)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Negative II (May not \/ Might not)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This negative form is used in predictions &amp; possibilities. There is no implication of ability or inability\u2014the person can do it, but they might choose not to or for some unknown reason, it may not happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>verb + ma + (y)abil + present simple tense + personal pronoun suffix<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>O gelmeyebilir. (<em>He\/she may not come.<\/em>) \u2192 Maybe they don&#8217;t want to, or we just don\u2019t know.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>O filmi sevmeyebilirsin, \u00e7ok a\u011f\u0131r bir drama. (<em>You may not like that movie; it&#8217;s a really intense drama.<\/em>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beni bir daha aramayabilir. San\u0131r\u0131m ilgisini kaybetti.<strong> <\/strong>(<em>He\/she may not call me again. I think they lost interest.<\/em>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Negative III (May not be able to)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this version, there is an element of inability, an obstacle. Even the person wants to do it, there is an something stopping them from it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>verb + e\/a +\u00a0 ma + (y)abil + present simple tense + personal pronoun suffix<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>O gelemeyebilir.
